If you've spent time in the Bay Area, you've probably noticed a recurring theme: whenever a community needs support, local breweries are often among the first organizations to step forward.

Whether supporting wildfire relief efforts, local nonprofits, schools, youth sports teams, or social causes, independent breweries consistently find ways to give back—even as larger companies and other industries hold back.

In just the past year, Bay Area Brewers Guild members have raised funds to support immigrant communities, defend reproductive rights organizations, and fight hunger. Meanwhile, across California, more than 100 breweries also joined forces earlier this year to support those affected by the devastating Southern California wildfires.

The latest example comes from one of the BABG's newest members.

Last year, Fathers Brewing joined the Bay Area Brewers Guild's Freshman Class of 2025, a group of breweries that launched during one of the most challenging economic periods in modern craft beer history. This Father's Day weekend, the upstart brewery is helping lead an ambitious fundraising effort called The Toast, a multi-faceted celebration designed to honor fathers, father figures, and the people who helped shape our lives.

The event aims to raise more than $300,000 for the Travis Manion Foundation and the Movember Foundation, organizations focused on veteran leadership, men's health, mental health, and suicide prevention. Fathers Brewing founders, Conor Begley and Joe Cloyes, hope it will become "the largest Father's Day fundraiser of its kind anywhere in the world."

The flagship event takes place Saturday, June 20, at The Ramp in San Francisco and will feature a community workout, games, live entertainment, giveaways, and opportunities to connect with fellow supporters. More than 100 satellite locations are also expected to participate, allowing people throughout the Bay Area to contribute to the cause.

Whether The Toast ultimately sets a fundraising record or not, it serves as a reminder of what makes local breweries special. At our best, breweries become essential parts of the communities we serve, creating spaces and opportunities for people to gather, celebrate, and support one another.
