Introducing “Beer 39”: Beer Week Arrives In Another Unexpected Setting
One of the great joys of Beer Week is watching beer from small, independent breweries show up in places you’d never expect. For one incredible week each year, we expand our orbit and get reminded that great beer belongs everywhere.
A Michelin-starred dining room.
A one-of-a-kind neighborhood pinball museum.
And now, San Francisco’s most iconic waterfront tourist destination!
The most powerful part of bringing local beer into new spaces is that it cuts both ways. During Beer Week, Beer People follow their favorite breweries and beers to legendary dim sum halls, extraordinary bakeries, and world-renowned wine bars. At the same time, foodies, runners, vinophiles, and cheesemongers suddenly find their favorite pastimes awash in fresh, local brew.
That spirit is exactly what inspired Beer 39, a new partnership between the Bay Area Brewers Guild and one of San Francisco’s most celebrated destinations, Pier 39.
Why Pier 39?

Pier 39 is a gathering place for millions of locals and visitors every year. The two-level, open-air marketplace is home to more than 100 restaurants, shops, and attractions, framed by sweeping views of the Bay and hundreds of world-famous California sea lions.
What the Pier is not, traditionally, is a place where you’d expect to find a thoughtfully curated lineup of beer from independent craft breweries. And that’s precisely what “Beer 39” provides!
What Is Beer 39?
From February 20 through March 1, all Beer Week long, we’re bringing local beer to the Pier.
Here’s how it works:
Eight locations. Eight outstanding local breweries. One passport.
You stop in. Order a beer. Get stamped. Move to the next spot.
Taste four of the eight beers, and you’ll take home an official SF Beer Week tasting glass.
For ten days, world-class local beer meets one of the world’s most visited waterfront destinations. Tourists are introduced to the depth and deliciousness of Bay Area brewing culture—served with a spectacular view. Locals get a reason to rediscover a San Francisco landmark. And small breweries get their beer poured in front of audiences they might not otherwise reach.
That’s Beer Week at its best.
